October 4, 2023

RATHBONE, NY – From Sheriff Jim Allard: On October 3rd, Steuben County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a complaint in the Town of Rathbone. A resident reported an unusual incident that had allegedly taken place earlier in the day, in which two individuals purporting to represent law enforcement officers appeared at the residence to “seize weapons”. After a brief conversation with the homeowner the individuals left the area. The individuals involved are alleged to have been operating a dark blue blue panel type van, with a sliding side door. The van had a white magnetic type star on the passenger side door. The complainant could provide no further description of the van. The individuals were described as wearing gray uniforms, with black stripes along the trouser leg. The uniforms appeared to have a fabric badge on the chest, and the individuals wore blue ball caps with a gold star emblem on the hat. The individuals are further described a 5’9″ white male, with a stocky build, blue eyes, and a reddish color goatee. The second male is described as a tall black male, who was wearing an identical uniform and hat. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance with this investigation.
