HORNELL-Anne L. Konopa, 68, of Cook St., passed away late Monday morning (Nov. 23, 2015) at McAuley Manor in North Hornell after a very heroic battle with ALS, that she fought with grace and laughter.
Born in Rochester on Oct. 3, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Kathleen McConachie Konopa.
A graduate of Mercy High School in Rochester, class of 1965, Anne entered the Sisters of Mercy in Rochester after her graduation from high school and served with them for 17 years, until 1982. While she was a member of the Sisters of Mercy she received an associate’s degree in Radiologic Technology from Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse and began her employment with St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell in 1971 as a staff technologist as well as a nuclear medicine technologist. In 1984 she became the radiology manager, a position she held until her retirement in 2012.
Anne dedicated her life to her family and friends and enjoyed her summer vacations at the family cottage on the St. Lawrence River, where she spent time fishing. Konopa, as she was known to many, loved children and animals and looked forward every year to Halloween, her favorite holiday, and shopping on Black Friday.
She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church in Hornell.
Her loving family includes her brother, Thomas (Tina) Konopa of Webster; her niece, Jillian Konopa and her nephew, Andrew Konopa; her aunt, Genevieve “Jean” Specksgoor; also several cousins and many God children; her loving friends and care givers, the Freeland and Smith families as well as numerous other dear and caring friends.

Calling hours are 3-6 p.m. Friday at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Rochester.
It was her wish that everyone that attends the calling hours or funeral mass should dress in bright colors to celebrate her life.
