Arkport to Hold Public Hearing Tonight on 2018-19 School Budget

May 8th, 2018

ARKPORT, NY – The Arkport school district will hold a Public Hearing tonight (May 8th) at 6pm at the High School on the proposed 2018-19 budget.

The budget of $10,895,722 calls for a 2.2% spending increase over the previous budget and will carry a 1.75% tax levy increase, which will be below the maximum allowed under the state’s tax levy limit law.

The fiscal plan increases BOCES services in the areas of social work and technology integration; adds an assistant principal-athletic director position; enhances security measures; establishes a new Arkport Conservation Club; and creates two new reserve accounts for technology and equipment.

Voters will also elect one member to the Board of Education and consider a proposal to purchase one 66-passenger bus and one six-passenger vehicle at a cost not to exceed $140,000.

“I am pleased we’re able to present a proposed budget that not only maintains current programming, but also bolsters support structures for our students while remaining fiscally responsible to the community’s taxpayers,” Superintendent of Schools Jesse Harper said.

Voting on the proposed budget will be on May 15th from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. in the small gymnasium at the High School.
