ARKPORT, NY – The Village of Arkport met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday evening, and the major point of discussion was the fact that Community Bank’s Arkport location will be closing in January. Before the branch closes, they are trying to enable the clerk and village personell to perform most of their transactions in house. Additionally, the village office will gain the ability to take payments with a debit or credit card, along with the cash and check payments that had already been possible. The tentative date for all of these to be in place is February 1.
The Department of Public Works asked for a previous request from last month, to buy two mowers and a truck, be rescinded. The DPW officials say they found a way to buy a truck cheaper than they originally thought they would have been able to, so they will proceed with their original plan to purchase two new pickup trucks. The DPW also sold an older truck for $15,000 to a buyer from Rochester, and the payment has already been processed. So as a result, Arkport Village Hall is going back to a July 2021 resolution, to purchase two new trucks for the Department of Public Works.
There was a four-inch water main break near West Avenue earlier in the month that has since been rectified. The village workers couldn’t get to the pipe because it was underneath Old State Road, so they cut the pipe off, capped the existing pipes, and tied the affected buildings into other water lines.
Also, residents of the village are reminded that there is an upcoming election for two trustees and the town mayor in March 2024, and caucuses will be held in late January; for candidates for all three positions. The dates for the GOP and Democrat Caucuses will be determined at the January 16 meeting.
