From Assemblyman Joe Giglio:
Assemblyman Joseph M. Giglio (R,C,I-Gowanda) joins his colleagues in a statement issued earlier regarding Governor Cuomo’s plan to take ventilators from Upstate and Western New York hospitals to be used in New York City.
“I oppose this extreme measure, which leaves our communities vulnerable,” said Giglio. “There has to be a better way. Pitting the needs of one region of the state against those of others is not the way we win the war against the coronavirus. These ventilators cannot currently be replaced because they are not available for purchase at this time. Taking this crucial resource from our hospitals just as the number of COVID-19 cases is rising exponentially in our region is unacceptable and puts the lives of our citizens at risk.”
Representatives Reed and Stefanik, along with State Senators Ortt, Borrello, Jacobs, Helming, Funke, Akshar, O’Mara and Assembly Members Palmesano, Friend, Goodell, Kolb, and Byrnes earlier expressed their objections about Governor Cuomo’s “very dangerous and reckless action.” They asserted that the Executive Order “leaves our people without protection and our hospitals unable to save lives today or respond to a coming surge.”
“The Western New York delegation stands united to serve the people we represent.”
