Bath VA Holds Ceremony To Remember POW-MIA’s

September 20, 2024

FROM THE FINGER LAKES VA: Bath, NY – Each year, on the third Friday of September, the nation recognizes former prisoners of war and service members who are still missing in action. Today, September 20, 2024, VA honors their heroism, the efforts to bring these service members home, and the sacrifices of their families.

On POW/MIA Recognition Day, we honor the sacrifices and remarkable determination of those captured as prisoners of war. We also remember those who remain unaccounted for, and we wish their families some comfort in knowing that our Nation has not forgotten them.

This afternoon, staff of the Bath VA and community members, gathered in the POW/MIA Rose Garden in Bath. The ceremony began with a prayer for POW survivors and those who are still missing, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony. The program concluded with a bagpiper and singing of traditional hymns like Amazing Grace.

The VA Finger Lakes also visited local surviving prisoners of War enrolled in VA Health care, presenting them with gifts, and reminding them, that we are a grateful nation and they are not forgotten.

We will always remember all our former Prisoners of War and all those still Missing in Action. We will never forget.
