Brian L. Sullivan, of Hornell

HORNELL-Brian L. Sullivan, 75, formerly of Ontario St. and a resident of Hornell Gardens, passed away Sunday morning (March 20, 2016) at St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell.

Born in Batavia on March 18, 1941, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Bernice (Emo) Sullivan. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his brother, Jere Sullivan and his sister, Mary Ann Sullivan.

A resident of Hornell for most of his life, Brian was a graduate of St. Ann’s School, Hornell High School and received his associate’s degree from Alfred State College

He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army from 1966 to 1968 and was employed for 30 years with Conrail in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Illinois before his retirement.

Brian was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church, a member of the Arthur H. Cunningham American Legion Post No. 440 and the Cpl. J.J. Mooney VFW Post No. 2250 in Hornell.

His family includes his brother, James (Florence) Sullivan of Williamsburg, Va.; his sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Hoffman) Sullivan of South Lyon, Mich. and several nieces and nephews, including his goddaughter, Meredith Sullivan White; also great-nieces and nephews and cousins, especially Carolyn Kelly, his “special care giver.”

The Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell is honored to serve the family of Brian L. Sullivan.

To honor his wishes there were no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 11 a.m. today (Tuesday) at St. Ann’s Church. Interment followed at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Hornell.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in his memory to either the Hornell Public Library, 64 Genesee St. or to the Hornell Family YMCA, 18 Center St., Hornell, N.Y. 14843.
