Buckley: Cuts To Cities?

February 11, 2021

HORNELL, NY – From Mayor John Buckley:

How in good conscience can the Governor even consider such draconian cuts to Cities? These proposed cuts would be debilitating to municipalities, could force layoffs, and severely compromise the ability to deliver essential services that residents expect, need and deserve. Through use of heavy-handed executive orders this past year, the Governor essentially shutdown much of the State economy sending sales tax into a nosedive. Now, to add insult to injury, he is proposing to cut AIM funding to cities across the board including nearly a quarter million dollars from the City of Hornell.

There has not been an increase in AIM funding in 12 years. Now, cities are facing drastic cuts totaling in the millions while the Governor plans to direct 2.1 billion dollars more to school districts in the coming budget. Cities across the State are being treated like second class citizens.
