Buckley: Expect Some Trees To Be Cut Down As Part Of Construction

February 28, 2024

HORNELL, NY – Over 60 residents stopped by the public meeting at the Community Arts Center yesterday evening to learn about the streetscape and alleyway projects through the City’s DRI.

With favorable weather conditions, crews from C.P. Ward began working this morning. City residents can expect the initial phase of construction to involve tree removal. “Trees are an integral part of our community and our downtown as Hornell prides itself as an official tree city. The reason behind the removal is the trees do not often survive the construction process. The good news is, plans include replacement trees, that will be more conducive to the updated downtown, and provide a better environment for the trees themselves,” noted Mayor John Buckley. Buckley noted many of the trees on Broadway will remain, except for those located at intersections.
