Canisteo And Alfred Police Chief Situations, Remain The Same

December 13, 2024

There are two local police chiefs who are in limbo from their regular jobs and have been in Limbo, for several months. Last summer Canisteo Police Chief Kyle Amidon and Alfred Police Chief Paul Griffith were both put on administrative leave, with pay, by the village boards, in Alfred and Canisteo. The Alfred village mayor says there’s an investigation going on but that he cannot by law talk about it. Similarly, the Canisteo mayor says there’s it’s a state trooper investigation and that she cannot say anything.

Both the Alfred village board and the Canisteo village board have had meetings where lots of residents showed up and complained about what happened to the police chiefs were treated.

At both meetings, the mayors answer, “we cannot talk about this.”

Paul Griffith has hired an attorney out of rochester, to work on keeping his position in Alfred. Kyle Amidon is still working for the North Hornell Police Department, where he was hired several years ago.
