Canisteo Mayor Wants In On Fire District

March 7, 2016

CANISTEO, NY – An update was given at Monday night’s Canisteo Village Board meeting, regarding the Village joining a joint fire district between the town of Canisteo and the town of Hartsville. Tucker reiterated that the village is all for it and explained the steps coming up in the future to make it happen.

The board also unanimously approved the request to host crazy days and a 5k walk, 5-10k run the first weekend in June. The village will allow events and close certain streets and they also agreed to cover everything under village insurance.

Also, Mayor Bill Tucker wants to bring back village cleanup days. Tucker said they had the program years back and it was very successful and a nice service to the taxpayers. Tucker noted that this not for garbage collection, but for yard cleanup, washers, dryers, old tires, etc. The board was also in favor of bringing back the service. Notices will be included in the April water bills.

In other Canisteo news, a date was set to hold a public hearing on a possible tax cap override. Tucker made it clear that the final numbers for the budget are not in yet and this is just a precautionary measure in case an override is needed. The hearing will be held April 4th at 6:55pm.

And finally Tucker reminded everyone that Village elections are Tuesday, March 15 from noon to 9pm at the town hall on South Main Street and to make sure everyone got out to vote.
