CANISTEO, NY – From Police Chief Kyle Amidon:
The Canisteo Village Police Department is saddened to hear the passing of fellow Police Officer, Partner and Friend Robert “The Bull” Margeson. Officer Margeson was hired by the Canisteo Village Police Department in 2015 after he retired from the the City of Hornell Police Department serving for over 35 years. Bull was a great asset to the police family giving a wealth of knowledge, support and dedication to the officers and the communities he served. Officer Margeson always put others first in line before himself helping give back to the community and surrounding area. He donated his time for decades whether it was on the football fields in Alfred, Hornell Humane Society, Police Departments or around the community. He had a passion to help others that very few do. He loved his companion black lab “Thunder” and spending his time at his cottage on Loucks pond. Officer Margeson always talked highly of his mother and made several trips to Pennsylvania to be with her. One statement Margeson always said to Chief Amidon or any other officer in the department was “Let me know if you need help with anything.”
I worked with Officer Margeson at the Hornell Police Department and he was always there for guidance when needed or just to make conversation when times in need. I consider Bull a close friend of mine and always knew he had my back. Officers have shared several stories over the years where Officer Margeson was always there for them. Bull would give his shirt off his back for anyone and will be deeply missed by all that knew him. Our prayers and condolences go out to him and his family. RIP Officer Robert “The Bull” Margeson.
