CANISTEO, NY – The Town of Canisteo received a letter from the NYS Dept of Taxation and Finance that their equalization rate is currently at 99%. An equalization rate below 100% means overall property in the town is assessed less than market value. Town supervisor John Peisher commented that he would like to see that number at or above 100%.
In hopes of rectifying that, the board agreed to extend a reassessment project through 2016 ending in 2017. Upon completing the project the town would be eligible for extra state aid up to five dollars a parcel.
Time Warner cable sent the town an official notice that their merger with Comcast will not go forward and TWC will remain the major provider.
