Over the past weekend, the 4th annual Canisteo-Greenwood Football Hall Of Fame inductions were held. The 2025 Hall Of Fame consisted of the 1975 Canisteo Redskins Varsity Football team, on the 50th anniversary of their historic 7 and 1 season. The 1975 team was recogonized at halftime during the Canisteo-Greenwood varsity football game. This by the way, is the first varsity football game CG played in their new field, in front of an estimated crowd of 1,000 people. The 1975 team was inducted into the CG Football Hall Of Fame on Saturday night during a banquet held at the Canisteo American Legion. About 150 people were present for the event. 28 members of the team and coaching staff were honored. Many reportedly flew in from all corners of the country.
The 1975 Canisteo Redskins Varsity Football team lost only one game by three points, to Livonia that season. Canisteo is said to have outscored their opponents 179 to 49, threw four shutouts, and the defense was not scored on, infive games. The 1975 team also did not give up a point in the second half of that entire season. That year they finished the season ranked 21st among all the small schools in New York State and had 12 players named as Livington County All Stars. The 1975 team is the first team to be inducted into the Canisteo-Greenwood Football Hall of Fame.
