Carl E. Dennis, of Jasper

JASPER-Carl E. Dennis, 74, of Smith Rd. passed away Thursday (Oct. 30, 2014) at his home following an extended illness.

 

Carl was born October 19, 1940 in Elmira to Ross Frye and Neva (Hargrave) Dennis. On October 28, 1961, in Jasper, he married the former Donna Irvine who survives and resides in Jasper.

 
Carl and Donna lived in Jasper where they raised two boys. Carl was self employed for 22 years, building and remodeling many homes in Jasper and surrounding areas. In the early 80’s he made a career change by continuing his education and becoming a building instructor for Alfred State College at the Wellsville Campus. He taught at the college level for 21 years, and also served as the Department Chairman of Building Construction. Prior to his retirement in 2005, he and Donna built a new home in Charlestown, Maryland in the upper Chesapeake Bay area. They also enjoyed time spent at a winter home in Parrish, Florida.

 
His outside interests included boating, collecting duck decoys from local Chesapeake Bay area carvers, and acquiring John Morton Barber paintings depicting boating and sailing scenes of the Chesapeake Bay. He also continued to build and renovate at his leisure.

 
In addition to his wife of 53 years, Donna Dennis of Jasper, Carl is survived by two sons: Greg (Julie) Dennis of Camillus, NY and Shaun Dennis of Jasper, two wonderful granddaughters: Caroline and Audrey Dennis of Camillus and a sister Arthura (Edward) Carpenter of Mooresville, N.C.

 
There will be no public calling hours or service. A private funeral will be at the convenience of the family at the H.P. Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home in Woodhull. Burial will be in Woodhull Cemetery, Woodhull, N.Y.
