Carroll Edward Simms, Jr., of Hornell

HORNELL-Carroll Edward Simms, Jr., 91, passed away early Tuesday evening (Dec. 21, 2021) at his home on Lincoln Street, after a long illness.

Born in North Hornell on April 7, 1930, he was a son of the late Carroll and Dorothy (Sharp) Simms. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by one son, Steven James Simms on Set. 16, 2021.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Carroll was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1948 and proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War era from 1951 to his honorable discharge in 1953.

Before his disability retirement, he was employed as a body/fender repairman at the former Elsenheimer Chevrolet, Inc. in Hornell.

Carroll enjoyed collecting antiques, going to yard sales, gardening, fishing and trapping; he was known as “Trapper Simms.”

His loving family includes his wife of 68 years, Alice Marie (Davison) Simms, who he married at the former Westminster Presbyterian Church in Hornell on July 19, 1953; one son, David Simms of Hornell; one daughter, Suzanne (Stephen) Tobey of Corning, NY; three grandsons, Christopher (Bobby) Simms, Matthew (Misty) Simms and Adam (Shannon) Simms; seven great-grandchildren; several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert (Ann) Simms of Sherevport, LA; one sister, Patricia Ann (Louis) Arcieri of Silverdale, WA; as well as several nieces and nephews.

To honor his wishes, there will be no calling hours or services.
