HORNELL, NY – Hornell Police report that two Hornell women have been charged, because of a fatal overdose that happened some weeks ago.
Arrested were: Susan Cook, 64, of 199 East Avenue, who is charged with first-degree reckless endangerment.
Rebecca J. Converso, of 244 Main St. Hornell, was charged with fifth-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance and first-degree reckless endangerment.

CANISTEO, NY – Canisteo welcomed a new pizza place Friday afternoon in Robbie’s Pizzeria. Located on Main WStreet where the old Canisteo Pizzaria used to be, owner Rob Robertson said he has been unofficially open since Krazy Daze in early June, but made it official today. Robertson said he is usually open 11am to 9pm, but that can vary. “We have had to bust our butts to get things going,” said Robertson, “But it’s finally up and running and we encourage everyone to stop in and try a slice or two.” You can call them at 698-9160 and eat in or have it delivered.
New York State United Teachers today released the following statement on the end of the 2019 legislative session:
“The legislative session began with a major victory for public education and is ending with significant progress for working people. Thanks to the tireless advocacy of our members, elected officials finally stood up for what is right and fixed the state’s broken teacher evaluation system right out of the gates. In the months that followed, legislators made significant progress with the passage of bills to allow districts to install school bus stop-arm cameras, institute new workplace violence protections in our schools, provide fair labor protections for School-Related Professionals, aid districts facing punitive financial penalties, help community colleges to attract the best candidates for their criminal justice programs, protect patients from exorbitant surprise emergency room bills, and provide basic labor rights for farmworkers.
“We are thankful for the Legislature’s commitment to addressing so many pressing issues that impact NYSUT members and the working class.
“These legislative victories also are a testament to the hard work of NYSUT members, whom we will continue to fight for in Albany. With school districts forced to make tough budget choices this spring, we will continue the fight for adequate resources for our schools. Statement From Senator Tom O’Mara:
State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) today criticized New York State government under one-party, Democrat control for failing to cut taxes, eliminate overregulation, roll back unfunded state mandates, or take any other actions that prioritize the need to strengthen the statewide economy and create jobs.
O’Mara said, “I said late last year, even before this session began, that New York State was about to get turned upside down, at breakneck speed, by a government under one-party, downstate, Democrat control. Even I didn’t imagine what we’ve just witnessed over the past six months when this radically progressive, far-left state government has started New York down an irresponsible, high-taxing, big-spending, law-breaking road to ruin. Many of my constituents have quipped, Can it really get any worse in New York? Yes it can, and yes it has.”
Among others, O’Mara criticized Governor Andrew Cuomo and Legislature’s Democrat leaders for the following actions throughout the just-concluded 2019 legislative session:
Ø Failure to provide adequate state funding for local road and bridges;
Ø Providing driver’s licenses to illegal immigrants under the so-called “Green Light” law;
Ø Providing college tuition assistance for illegal immigrants under the so-called “DREAM Act”;
Ø Decisions by the State Parole Board to release cop killers and cold-blooded murderers from prison;
Ø Enacting the “Farmworkers Fair Labor Practices Act” that many farm advocates, including the New York Farm Bureau, fear could devastate family farms;
Ø Moving forward on an aggressive and far-reaching “climate protection” agenda that many fear will exponentially drive up New York’s already high cost of energy for consumers, businesses, senior citizens;
Ø Numerous criminal justice reforms that favor criminals over crime victims; and
Ø Taking decision-making powers and responsibilities away from the Legislature by creating numerous unelected, unaccountable boards and commissions to decide controversial issues including, among others, the Farm Wage Board and commissions on Commuter Tax/Congestion Pricing, Taxpayer Financed Campaigns, and Climate Change.
“This government has simply turned its back on common sense, and law and order,” O’Mara said. “It has wiped its hands clean of concern for farmers, local property taxpayers, hard-working families, the families of crime victims, small business owners, manufacturers, and so many others. It has belligerently and without hesitation begun implementing a far-left, Democratic-Socialist, radically progressive, New York City-centric experiment in government in New York State, and the rest of us are going to pay for it. In my opinion, it’s already a failed experiment and we need to stand up against it.”

FROM THE U.S. ATTORNEYS OFFICE:
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – U.S. Attorney James P. Kennedy, Jr. announced today that Kenneth Hoag, 57, of Dansville, NY, who was convicted of possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer to serve 12 months in prison. The defendant was also ordered sell the property known as the Bone Yard, in Dansville, NY, which Hoag used and maintained for the purpose of distributing methamphetamine. Proceeds of the sale of the property totaling $108,438.78 was forfeited to the Government.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Katelyn M. Hartford Grace M. Carducci, who handled the case, stated that on April 7, 2017, the defendant sold methamphetamine to an individual at The Bone Yard, located on State Highway 36 in Dansville. Additionally, on April 21, 2017, Hoag possessed in his tool chest a quantity of methamphetamine.
Hoag is one of seven defendants charged and convicted in this case.
Today’s sentencing is the result of an investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration, under the direction of Special Agent-in-Charge Ray Donovan, New York Field Division; the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department, under the direction of Sheriff Thomas Dougherty; and the New York State Police, under the direction of Major Eric Laughton.

STEUBEN COUNTY, NY – The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office says that boaters need to watch out for debris when boating at Keuka Lake, some of which is not easily seen.
The debris in Keuka Lake was caused by the downpour and heavy winds that hit Kueka Lake today.

ALLEGANY COUNTY, NY – A NYS Senate primary is coming up next Tuesday June 25 in Allegany County, that’s the state senate primary between Allegany County Lawmaker Curt Crandall and Chautauqua County Executive George Borrello. The latest is that the Allegany County Board of elections has moved the voting location in Town of Birdsall: voting has been moved to the Birdsall Fire Hall, which is at 9040 County Route 15B in Canaseraga.
This of course, is due to the heavy winds that caused damage to Birdsall buildings today.

ALLEGANY COUNTY, NY – An official at the Allegany County Fire Commissioners Office tells WLEA News this morning, heavy winds, came through the Town of Birdsall, doing damage to the Birdsall Townhall and Firehall, which we’re told, is the same building. There were no injuries. There are conflicting reports at this point, as to whether it was a microburst or a tornado that came through.
Also, Mike Baldwin of the Wellsville Regional News page, tells WLEA that three children were playing near a river in the Allegany County Town of Centerville, and that the children were dangerously near the water and had to be rescued. Baldwin says that the children are said to be safe, and were not injured.
