Catherine L. “Katie” Connors, of Hornell

HORNELL-Catherine L. “Katie” Connors, 87, passed away late Wednesday morning (March 10, 2021) at her home on Pine Street, after a long illness.

Born in Hornell on June 24, 1933, she was a daughter of the late Donald and Florence (Swan) Witherow. On Apr. 23, 1960 she was married at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell to James P. Connors, who predeceased her on Oct. 24, 2018, after 58 years of marriage. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by two sisters, Elizabeth Booth and Eileen Mitchell.

A lifelong resident of Hornell, Katie was a graduate of Hornell High School, class of 1951 and St. James School of Nursing, where she received her RN.

She was employed as a registered nurse at St. James Mercy Hospital, the former Bethesda Community Hospital and the Bath V.A. Medical Center and also assisted her husband in the operation of the former Connors Pharmacy in Hornell.

Her loving family includes four children, Timothy Connors of Hornell, John (Angie) Connors of Mountain Top, Pa., Elizabeth (Greg) DeLaus of Penfield, N.Y. and Michael Connors of Lockport, Ill.; two grandchildren, Matthew and Catherine DeLaus; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Friday (March 19, 2021) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Those attending the calling hours are required to wear a face mask and use hand sanitizer and practice social distancing after entering the funeral home. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., followed by committal services and interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Town of Fremont. The funeral service will be live streamed and may be seen either on the homepage of www.bishopandjohnsonfuneralhome.com or on the Facebook page of Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc. for 30 days beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday (March 20, 2021).

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to CareFirst (Hospice), 3805 Meads Creek Road, Painted Post, N.Y. 14870. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Melanie Miles and Sandy Jessmer for the wonderful care they gave to Katie during her illness.
