FROM ASSEMBLYMAN CHRIS FRIEND: Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend (R,C-Big Flats) has called on Gov. Hochul to immediately remove Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg from his position. Recent reports detailing plea deals offered by Bragg to migrants involved in the vicious attack on NYPD officers in Times Square have sparked statewide outrage. It raises concerns that individuals responsible for assaulting law enforcement officers are being offered lenient plea deals, undermining the principles of justice and accountability.
The assault on two NYPD officers in Times Square on January 27, captured on camera, revealed the grave threats faced by our brave men and women in uniform while they work tirelessly to protect New York city. It is unacceptable that those responsible for this despicable act are being offered leniency rather than facing the full consequences of their actions.
Furthermore, the revelation that one of the accused attackers, Yohenry Brito, was rearrested for allegedly committing another crime while out on bail highlights the failure of the justice system to ensure public safety. Gov. Hochul must act swiftly to restore faith in our criminal justice system and uphold the principles of law and order.
“Gov. Hochul must take immediate action and remove Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg from office. Offering plea deals to criminals responsible for such heinous acts sends a dangerous message that violence against law enforcement will be tolerated and met with impunity. Public protection and law and order should be our priority. It is inexcusable for Bragg, a man who is supposed to represent justice in New York, not to hold these criminals accountable. When did illegal migrants become more important than the citizens of our own state? As our governor, Kathy Hochul needs to take action and show New Yorkers people will be held accountable when they put public safety at risk,” said Friend.
