FROM THE CHEMUNG CO SHERIFF’S DEPT: On June 19, 2025 at 5:37 P.M., Chemung County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Interstate 86, at the exit 54 off-ramp to State Route 13, in the Town of Horseheads, for a single motorcycle accident, which was determined to be a fatality.
Upon arrival, a red 2008 Kawasaki ZX 6R, with extensive damage was located. The operator was found deceased approximately 100 yards from the motorcycle. The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. Witnesses to the accident, advised that the motorcyclist was traveling erratically at a high rate of speed, swerving around and between vehicles, prior to the accident.
Through the investigation, it was determined that the motorcyclist exited at the exit 54 off-ramp at a high rate of speed and approached a fork in the roadway that leads to the Village of Horseheads and State Route 13. The motorcyclist failed to navigate a curve and struck a guardrail and was subsequently ejected from the motorcycle, landing in a marshy area. The motorcycle skidded approximately 75 yards further down the road before coming to a stop.
The operator of the motorcycle, identified as 22-year-old, DAKOTA M. KEISTER of Southport, New York, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division was called to the scene to assist with the investigation. Also assisting Deputies at the scene were the Town and Country Fire Department, Erway Ambulance, and the New York State Police.
