Christine J. (Curran) “Chrissy” McDaniel, of North Hornell

NORTH HORNELL-Christine J. (Curran) “Chrissy” McDaniel, 52, of Cleveland Ave., passed away, surrounded by her loving family, late Monday evening (April 6, 2015) at Unity Hospital in Rochester, after a long and courageous battle with cerebellar ataxia.

 
Born in Hornell on July 3, 1962, she was a daughter of Richard and Joanne Dixon Curran, who survives. On Oct. 17, 1987 she was married at the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Hornell to Dr. Timothy S. McDaniel, who also survives.

 
A graduate of Hornell Senior High School, Chrissy also graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica and Mansfield University.

 
She was employed as a special education teacher for the Hornell City School District before raising her family.

 
Chrissy was a communicant of the former St. Ignatius Loyola Church and more recently was a communicant of St. Ann’s Church of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Hornell. A former member of the Ladies of Columbus, she would also serve as a volunteer at Mercy Care in North Hornell.

 
She loved angels and anything Celtic. Chrissy also loved to read and work puzzles, especially word jumble. Most importantly she loved to be with her family and friends.

 
Her loving family includes her husband, Dr. Tim McDaniel; her daughter, Meredith (Jarrod) Shafer of Hornell; her son, James McDaniel of New Paltz; her parents, Richard and Joanne Curran of Hornell; her brother, Colin (Becky) Curran of Hornell; her two sistesr, K.C. (Tim) Quinlan of Hornell and Erin Fenton of Webster; her sister-in-law, Faye Erdman of Bensalem, Pa.; also her nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Thursday (May 21, 2015) at the Bishop & Johnson Funeral Home, Inc., 285 Main St., Hornell. Friends are invited to meet her family at St. Ann’s Church in Hornell where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in her memory at 10 a.m. Friday (May 22, 2015).

 
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may contribute in her memory to the Rochester Ataxia Foundation, P.O. Box 16560, Rochester, N.Y. 14616. Envelopes for memorial contributions will be available at the funeral home.
