Clarence R. “Ray” Conine, Hornell
Hornell, NY – Clarence R. “Ray” Conine, 78, of 23 Adsit St., died unexpectedly Friday morning (January 31, 2013) at his home.
A native & life resident of Hornell, he was born June 29, 1935 and was the son of Fred & Meta (Skinner) Conine.
Ray was a graduate of Hornell High School (class of 1953) and later attended Ithaca College. He was employed for several years at JC Penney’s in Hornell and for many years served as an insurance agent in the Hornell area. For several years he was employed as assistant manager at the former Security Trust Bank in Hornell.
Ray always had a love of animals and for many years owned & operated riverside Pet Store in Hornell. Throughout the years he owned & cared for many dogs.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Manry.
Ray was married for 55 years to the former Rose Cartella who survives. Also surviving are 3 sons, Alan (Becky) Conine of Rochester, Andy (Kathy) Conine of Hornell and Charlie Conine of Rochester; 4 grandchildren, Kirsten (Evan) Cogansparger, Marissa (Ryan) Goodwin, Michael Conine and Kyle Conine; 4 great-grandchildren; several nieces & nephews.
The family of Clarence R. “Ray” Conine will receive friends on Monday from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Dagon Funeral Home, 38 Church St., Hornell, NY where a memorial service will be held at the conclusion of calling hours at 6:00 PM with Deacon Robert McCormick officiating.
Ray’s family request that memorial contributions in his name be made to Hornell Humane Society, 7649 Industrial Park Road, Hornell, NY 14843. Memorial forms will be available at the Dagon Funeral Home.
