At 3:05PM Monday afternoon the Bath Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for a vehicle over the embankment on the Mail Route near Sanford Road in the Town of Bath. Bath Assistant Chief David Dowdle arrived on scene to find a Kia Sorrento with the driver still in the vehicle over a steep embankment and partially on its side. The driver claimed to be uninjured but unable to get out of the car and up the bank.
Assistant Chief Curtis Wininger requested Savona Fire to the scene with an engine and crew to assist with extrication and bringing the driver up the bank. Goodrich Auto Works was on scene with a rollback and ran a cable down to the car to the front stabilize it and keep it from going farther down the embankment. Bath Fire’s Heavy Rescue ran a winch cable down to the rear to hold the vehicle steady to facilitate extrication of the driver and bring him up the embankment in a stokes rescue basket using a low angle rope rescue rig. He was taken to be evaluated by the Bath Volunteer Ambulance Corps. where he refused treatment.
A large rotator wrecker from Fleet Pride was summoned to the scene to use their boom to bring the vehicle up the bank to the road where Goodrich Auto Works rollback would take it back to their garage. All units cleared the scene at 4:39PM.
