Congressman Reed’s Hospital Legislation

April 5, 2017

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Tom Reed is introducing the bipartisan Rural Hospital Access Act. Reed says the bill is intended to preserve access to health care for individuals, specifically seniors, in rural areas. The bill will ensure that funding is secured on a permanent basis for Medicare Dependent and Low-Volume hospitals. “I care about making sure that seniors have access to the health care that they need. Working with my colleagues across the aisle, we have been able to find a patient and senior focused path to ensuring access to care,” Reed stated.

These hospitals rely on the funding to serve their communities and ensure access for Medicare dependent patients.

There are three Medicare-dependent hospitals in this congressional district: Corning Hospital, Ira Davenport, and St. Joseph’s of Elmira.
The three low-volume hospitals are: St. James, Jones Memorial and Ira Davenport.
