Congressman Tom Reed: We’ll Be A Voice For St James and Oak Orchard

May 30, 2019

Statement From Congressman Tom Reed:

Rep. Tom Reed addressed the benefits of federally qualified health centers (FQHC) and recognized their importance in our rural communities at the new Oak Orchard Health facility in Hornell. “We care about our friends and neighbors in the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes and Western New York regions who have to travel long distances to see their primary care physician or go to a hospital,” Tom said. “We want to make sure people have fair access to the quality care they deserve in times of emergency or for their yearly check up. Federally qualified health centers are important to our residents and we will continue to be a voice for them in Washington.”

“Oak Orchard Health is pleased to be able to to serve the residents of the Hornell community by providing increased access to care through expanded dental and behavioral health services, in addition to the high quality primary medical care for which we are known,” said CEO of Oak Orchard Health, Mary Ann Pettibon.
In the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019, federally qualified health centers were funded $3.8 billion for fiscal year 2018 and $4 billion for fiscal year 2019. FQHC’s deliver a broad array of primary and preventive care services, including screening, diagnosis and management of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, asthma, heart and lung disease, depression, cancer and HIV/AIDS.

In 2015, Tom secured a $858,333 grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) that funded this facility.
Oak Orchard Health is a FQHC organization that has six locations throughout Upstate New York who strives to improve community wellness and provide the best care possible to their patients.
