FROM THE HISTORICAL SOCIETY:
Steuben County Historical Society will offer a free historic walk in Hornell on Friday, September 12. Participants should meet at the library steps on 64 Genesee Street. No registration is required for the 4 PM activity. “The 1911 library is remarkable all by itself,” says Historical Society director Kirk House, who will lead the walk. “It’s Steuben County’s only Carnegie Library, with construction funded by the 19th-century steel baron. Until the 1970s, it was Steuben’s only purpose-built library.”
Other sights along the way include the 1916 “imperial age” post office; a gathering of war memorials; and Steuben County’s only purpose-built synagogue.
