County To Ask For More Money Collected By The DMV To Stay In County

The Steuben County Legislature will request that state officials increase Steuben’s share of the state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Office fees. Steuben County Clerk Judith Hunter says the county now sends the state DMV 87.3 percent of the fees collected by the county DMV for services mandated by the state. Hunter says the county’s 13.7 percent share of the collected fees has not increased since 1999, although services by the local DMV have steadily grown.

Hunter said increasing the county DMV revenue sharing rate would allow Steuben to provide necessary local government services and reduce pressure on property taxes, without increasing costs or fees to local residents.
