Appearing on the Newsmaker Show this morning, Steuben County Public Health Director Darlene Smith stated that Steuben County is behind other counties in getting vaccinated. Smith says only 36 percent have had their first dose, compared to other counties that are at 45 to 50 percent.
The reason for this is apprehension about getting the covid vaccine. “The issue is definitely vaccine hesitancy,” Darlene Smith told Wlea News. “The vaccine is very accessible, it’s very available, it really comes down to vaccine hesitancy. So I would just encourage anyone who is hesitant, to just talk with your family and friends who have had the vaccine and hear their success stories.”
The county public health director also explained that not everyone experiences the side effects of temporary drowsiness, low grade fevers or aches. Darlene Smith also stated that this usually only last for a few hours.
