Democrats Reaction To President Biden’s SOTU

March 8, 2024

One hour and seven minutes without a single named called.
Without threatening violence against the rude interruptions.
Without disparaging anyone or going off onto wild, revenge filled tangents.
Without extolling the virtues of our enemies and castigating our allies.
Without unfairly demonizing entire groups of people.
Without repeating over and over again how horrible our country is but instead looking towards how great we can truly be.
An entire speech filed with facts and policies and optimism.
A speech of unity, not division
Of inclusion, not exclusion.
Of solid plans, not wild claims.
Of pride for what has been accomplished and determination to do more.
A speech about moving forward and not backward.
A speech that praised the heart and soul of this great country.
Given by a man who has dedicated his life to serving it.
Isn’t that who should be leading us for the next four years?

Sincerely,

Karen Patterson, Representative
Almond NY
Allegany County Democratic Committee

FROM SENATOR CHUCK SCHUMER:
What the American people heard tonight was a leader who spoke directly to them, acknowledging their needs and sharing in their hopes for the future, reminding us why America is a beacon of hope to the rest of the world and the work that must be done to maintain that status

“President Biden’s State of the Union was rooted in his optimistic vision for our future — one that uplifts working and middle-class families that have built our nation — and paints a stark contrast to those trying to divide the country and set us back. Under his leadership, we have seen historically low unemployment and record-high job creation, unprecedented investment in our infrastructure and industries of the future, and bold protection of women’s right to make their own choices about their bodies.

“I applaud President Biden for his support of Ukraine, defense of democracy, and his demand for common sense solutions to secure our border. The President presented his plan to secure our border and create legal pathways for migrants and asylum seekers to work. Now, we need Republicans to stop blocking a bipartisan bill and address the migrant crisis that is overwhelming New York.

“President Biden also understands the high stakes if we don’t put an end to gun violence. After a tragedy too close to home, I passed strong gun laws to protect New Yorkers. But Republicans in Congress have refused to do the same. It’s time to put a stop to senseless gun violence.

“President Biden sent a clear message that Democrats are fighting for American families. I’m proud to continue working with his Administration to build a stronger, more prosperous New York.”

New York State Democratic Party Chairman Jay Jacobs released the following statement:

“Tonight, President Biden spoke directly to the American people about the historic progress of the Biden-Harris Administration from defending freedoms, protecting democracy, helping to create millions of jobs, lowering costs and more. President Biden made it clear that he is the leader New Yorkers need and deserve and laid out his clear vision for the future of our country.

“As Donald Trump doubles down on his agenda to ban abortion nationally, make the wealthy richer, and take away the rights of hard-working New Yorkers, the contrast could not be clearer. New York Democrats look forward to working to re-elect President Biden in 2024 and know that he will continue delivering transformative results for our state in a second term.”
