Dems Say Lee Zeldin Doesn’t Show Up For Congressional Votes

October 30, 2022

From The New York State Democrats:
No Show Lee: Blows Off Nearly Half of All Congressional Votes Since June

Last month, Lee Zeldin blew off critical votes in Congress that would support law enforcement, but it turns out “tough on crime” Zeldin has missed nearly half of his congressional votes since earlier this summer.

No Show Lee missed 49 of the last 100 roll call votes going back to early June and failed to vote by proxy. Many of these votes were broadly bipartisan, like a bill to combat hunger among veterans, which was supported by 158 of Zeldin’s Republican colleagues.

Zeldin also missed a vote on the Restoring Hope for Mental Health and Well-Being Act, passing with support from more than 180 Republicans. Zeldin even skipped out on a vote to boost life insurance for service members – which passed on a resounding 425 to 0 vote, making Zeldin one of just seven representatives who failed to show up.

This isn’t the first time the tough-talking congressman has been caught blowing off work. In 2016, the New York Post reported “the Long Island Republican missed more than half of full committee hearings last year. His attendance record is worse – absent 67 percent of time – when looking at full committee and subcommittee hearings focused just on ISIS and the Syrian crisis – issues Zeldin regularly lectures about on cable news.”

“Zeldin had the opportunity to do his taxpayer-funded job in D.C. and deliver for New Yorkers, but instead, he couldn’t be bothered to even show up,” said New York State Democratic Party Chairman Jay S. Jacobs. “By failing to do his job in Washington, Lee Zeldin has lost all credibility, and we can’t trust him in Albany.”
