Dodgers Beat Gliders In Both Games Of Yesterday’s Double Header

DANSVILLE, NY – The Hornell Dodgers swept a pair of games from Dansville on Wednesday afternoon, 8-7 and 16-7. The Dodgers are now 8-5-1 and are on a five game unbeaten streak.

The Dodgers got on the board in the 1st to take a lead they would never give up in the opener. Matteo Avallone (Alfred State) hit a RBI double and Aaron Mann (Drury) collected a RBI on a bases loaded walk.

In the second, AJ Gonzalez (St. Thomas Aquinas) scored on interference and Jack McDonald (Wilmington) scored when Wade Kelly (Coastal Carolina) scored on a bases loaded walk.

In the 5th, Andrew Edwards (Shepherd) hit a RBI single before the Gliders plated three in the bottom half of the inning to make it 5-3.

Christopher Penna (Rhodes) hit a solo homer, his third of the season, in the 6th before the Gliders cut the lead to one with two runs of their own.

Mann and Gonzalez collected RBI singles in the 7th to make it 8-5. Dansville cut the lead to 8-7 in the bottom of the inning and had the bases loaded before Collin Burdett (Hornell HS/Alfred State) got the final out to earn the save.

Burdett allowed two runs on one hit in the final inning to earn the save in his first appearance with the Dodgers. Richard Albrecht (Wilmington) went the first six innings to earn the victory. He allowed nine hits and five earned runs while walking one and striking out three.

Seven different Dodgers collected hits and the team drew 12 walks in the opener.

The Dodgers continued to score runs in game two. Jordyn Smith (Grambling) and Mann collected RBI singles in the 1st.

The Gliders tied it up with two in their first at bat but the Dodgers took the lead for good in the 2nd. Smith made it 4-2 with a two out double to right field.

Levi Hall (Webster) hit a two run homer in the 3rd. Noah Fasso (Hudson Valley CC) scored on a double steal with Kelly and McDonald followed with a RBI single.

Mann hit a solo homer, his first of the season, to make it 9-2 in the 4th.

The Gliders scored three in the bottom half of the inning but the Dodgers put the game out of reach with a six run 5th inning. Avallone, Mann, and Hall drew bases loaded walks. Avallone scored on a wild pitch, Gonzalez hit a RBI ground out and Fasso capped the inning with a RBI double to right.

Smith collected a RBI single in the 6th after the Gliders scored one in the bottom of the 5th.

Dansville plated one in the bottom of the 6th to cap the scoring.

Smith was 3 for 4 with 3 RBI, Kelly was 3 for 5, and Mann was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI. The Dodgers collected 15 hits in the contest and seven more walks.

Brody Burdett (Alfred State) tossed five innings to earn the victory. He allowed nine hits and three earned runs while walking three and striking out three. Tim Holler (Alfred State) allowed one run in the 6th, and Smith pitched a scoreless 7th to close the game.

The Dodgers host the Rochester Ridegmen tomorrow evening for a 7 p.m. start at Maple City Park.
