Dodgers Beat Gliders Last Night

The Hornell Dodgers scored five in the 2nd to propel themselves to a 9-5 victory over the Dansville Gliders on Monday. The Dodgers are now unbeaten in eight straight and improve to 11-5-1 on the year.

In the 2nd, Jack McDonald (Wilmington) led off with a single and Levi Hall (Webster) stepped up and lifted a two-run homer to right center to make it 2-0. Brody Burdett (Alfred State) and Tim Holler (Alfred State) followed with singles and Ryan Hill (Monroe CC/Mercyhurst) followed with a two-RBI triple down the left field line. Mitch Daniels (Webster) capped the inning with a RBI single.

Dansville cut the lead to 5-2 with a pair of runs in the 5th but Mann answered with a two-run double to right center to score Daniels and Brendan O’Donnell (Rider).

The Gliders scored two more in the bottom of the 6th to cut it to 7-4 but they wouldn’t get any closer. In the 7th, Hill hit a sac fly to score Hall and in the 8th, Mann scored on a wild pitch.

Dansville scored a run in the 9th and threatened for more but John Haines (Washington & Jefferson) recorded the final three outs to secure the victory.

Mann was 3 for 5 with a RBI while Hill was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Hall finished 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, Burdett was 2 for 4, and McDonald was 2 for 5.

Dom Grady (Wilmington) allowed two earned runs on 10 hits in eight innings of work to earn his third victory of the summer. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out three. Haines allowed one run in the 9th.

The Dodgers are back at Maple City Park on Tuesday when they host the Mansfield Destroyers for a 7 p.m. contest. Mansfield is currently in 1st place with 26 points while Hornell is in 2nd with 23.
