July 8, 2021

HORNELL, NY – The Hornell Dodgers won their third straight with a 11-2 victory over the Rochester Ridgemen on Wednesday. The second game of the doubleheader was suspended in the 2nd inning with the Dodgers holding a 2-0 advantage.

Christopher Penna (Rhodes) got the Dodgers on the board in the 1st when he singled home Wade Kelly (Coastal Carolina).

The Ridgemen scored their lone runs of the game in the 2nd with a pair of singles by Frank Brown and Tyler Estabrook.

An error in the 2nd allowed the Dodgers to rally and take the lead for good. Matt Staker (Webster) reached on an error, Mitch Daniels (Webster) followed with a single, and Kelly hit a bad-hop inside-the-park homer to make it 4-2.

In the 4th, Kelly delivered a two-run double to right field and scored moments later on a RBI groundout by Aaron Mann (Drury).

The Dodgers put the game out of reach in the 5th with four runs as they took advantage of four walks and two hit by pitches. The lone hit of the inning was a two-run single by Penna. Daneils hit a sac fly and Matteo Avallone (Alfred State) drew a bases loaded walk.

Alex Foppe (Webster) won his fourth game of the summer with a complete game effort. He allowed eight hits and two earned runs while walking three and striking out six.

Avallone led the 11-hit attack with a 3 for 3 day while Daniels was 2 for 2. Each picked up a RBI. Kelly was 2 for 4 with 5 RBI and Penna was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI.

The Dodgers collected RBI singles by Kelly and Mann in the 1st inning of game two and led 2-0 after two complete innings before lightning took both teams off the field. The game was suspended and will be picked up next week.

The Dodgers have Thursday off before beginning a road trip at Mansfield on Friday. The Dodgers and Destroyers will pick up a suspended game at 2:20 p.m. (Mansfield has a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd) and then play the regularly scheduled game at 5 p.m.
