The Hornell Dodgers scored a pair of runs in the 9th to rally to tie the Genesee Rapids, 3-3, in fall-like weather on Tuesday evening.
Lewis Pettit (Alfred State) and Sam Craven battled on the mound for most of the contest. Pettit allowed just two runs in the 4th when Jacob Watson and Charlie Towers collected RBI singles.
The Dodgers got on the board off of Craven in the 7th when Wade Davis (Coastal Carolina) tripled to lead off the inning and scored on a two-out RBI double by Christopher Penna (Rhodes).
The Rapids plated a run in the 8th on a two-out, two-strike single by Towers to make it 3-1.
Hornell didn’t go away and in the 9th, Jack McDonald (Wilmington) hit a solo homer with one away to cut the lead to 3-2. Jordyn Smith (Grambling) reached one batter later when strike three got past the Rapids catcher. Pinch runner Tim Holler (Alfred State) went to second on a wild pitch and with two away Matteo Avallone (Alfred State) tied it up with an opposite field single to right. The Dodgers loaded the bases but the Rapids were able to force extra innings with a ground out to end the threat.
Dom Grady (Wilmington) retired the Rapids in order in the 10th. AJ Gonzalez (St. Thomas Aquinas) led off the inning with a single and pinch runner Garrett Stuckey (FLCC) went to second on a wild pitch and advanced to third on a ground out. Zach Burroughs was able to strand Stuckey at third to close the game and end the contest in a tie.
Penna was 3 for 5 for the Dodgers while McDonald and Gonzalez were each 2 for 5.
Watson was 3 for 5 and Towers was 2 for 4 for the Rapids. Craven struck out 10 in seven innings of work. He allowed nine hits and one run.
Pettit allowed four hits and two runs in seven innings of work. He walked six and struck out eight. Grady threw three innings allowing four hits, one run, and one walk while striking out four.
The Dodgers head down Rt. 36 on Wednesday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader with the Dansville Gliders.
