The NY Post reported on Friday night, that homeless veterans were being kicked out of a hotel in Orange County, to make room for the migrants coming in from New York City. Now, Congressman Mike Lawler (R, Westchester County) is weighing in on this situation. The congressman is blaming NYC Mayor Eric Adams, and says Adams, is behind the hotel evictions.
Statement From Rep. Mike Lawler: “It is absolutely outrageous that homeless veterans would be displaced to alleviate New York City’s migrant crisis. That Mayor Eric Adams would choose to endanger the welfare of our veterans speaks volumes to what a debacle this has become,” said Congressman Mike Lawler. “First, Mayor Adams and his team announced a ‘pilot program’ for bussing migrants out of New York City without any notification of municipalities they were being sent to. Then, New York City fought in court to try and strip away the local control these municipalities have to stop efforts like this. Now, Mayor Adams is literally putting homeless veterans on the street in an effort to not have to deal with the migrants arriving in New York City.
“If Mayor Eric Adams had a shred of decency, he would drive up to Orange County tomorrow and apologize to these veterans himself,” continued Congressman Lawler. “That might be the most communication anyone has received in this absolute debacle. Shame on Mayor Adams, shame on New York City’s government, and shame on those who refuse to deal with the situation at our border that is driving all of this.
“Mayor Adams must immediately cease shipping migrants to other municipalities and work with federal, state, and local officials to develop a plan that humanely and legally addresses this crisis,” concluded Congressman Lawler. “Displacing our homeless veterans does not.”
New York’s 17th Congressional District is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester County.
