GENESEO, NY – Last night at 9:27pm, Livingston County Sheriff Tom Dougherty posted on Twitter: “We are fielding a lot of calls about a loud noise and a shake to the ground. We are continuing to investigate but preliminary report is an earthquake with a 2.4 magnitude in our area. Please know there is no cause for alarm and we are continuing to verify the event as such.”

This morning, Spectrum News reported that the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed what the sheriff said, that there was a 2.4 magnitude earthquake last night in Livingston County.

Update: 930am: At least one Hornell resident reports having felt that quake last night, in the 9pm hour as well.
