Elizabeth “Betty” Keegan, of Troupsburg

TROUPSBURG: Elizabeth “Betty” Keegan, 98, of Troupsburg, passed away peacefully Friday morning (March 16, 2018) at Jones Memorial Hospital following a short illness.

Betty was born February 26, 1920 to George and Mary Andrejco. She was married to the late John Robert Keegan who predeceased her on September 19, 1978.

Betty was a life member of the Greenwood American Legion Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Troupsburg Vol. Fire Dept. Auxiliary and the Woodhull Senior Citizens. She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rexville where she served on the Rosary and Alter Guild for several years and helped in the church kitchen on many occasions.

Betty loved to garden and see her plants flourish throughout the seasons. She enjoyed cooking for family and friends throughout the year especially during the holidays. Polka dancing was one of her favorite activities and always looked forward to a trip to “Polly Wogg Holler” where she enjoyed a lot of good times and lots of laughs with her family and friends.

Betty is survived by two sons, John Keegan (Patricia Pirrone) of Edmeston and Larry Keegan of Troupsburg, two daughters Mary Woodworth of Greenwood and Ann Zeltwanger of Hornell. 10 grandchildren: John and Eric Keegan, Daryl (Lynn) Keegan, Nicole (Dean) Valentine, Keeley Woodworth, Miaja Keegan-Stephens, Ashley, Kurt and Staci Zeltwanger and Lisa (Bill) Zeltwanger-Drake. 6 great-grandchildren, Cassandra Valentine, Keegan Valentine, Derek Keegan, Ayanna Keegan, Daryl Keegan II and Colton Keegan. She is also survived by 4 sisters Marion Kupcho, Verna Stugus, Agnes Josephite and Irene McCabe, one brother Michael Andrejco. She was predeceased by a brother, George Andrejco, and her half-sisters, Anna Horvat, Margaret Murphy and Helen Bigger.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Monday at the H.P Smith & Son, Inc. Funeral Home, 29 East Main St. in Canisteo. A Mass and Christian burial will take place Tuesday at 10:00 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Rexville. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Churchyard Cemetery, Rexville.
