Steuben County recently became aware of a scam in which individuals
impersonated county email addresses in attempts to have their targets
provide banking information and wire funds.
Emails from Steuben County officials end with the suffix “steubencountyny.gov” and
employees do not use Gmail for official business. In addition, the County does all its
banking within New York State. If you are contacted by an individual representing
themselves as a Steuben County employee, ensure that the email domain is valid and
exercise extreme caution when providing any personal or business banking information
over the phone or by email.
Law Enforcement authorities have been notified of this scam and are actively
