Finger Lakes SPCA Receives $28,000 Grant from the ASPCA
The Finger Lakes SPCA has been awarded a $28,158 grant from the ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) to support the Shelter’s Behavior and Enrichment program. The grant will help FLSPCA fund essential life-enriching services which will better prepare companion animals for adoption and make their temporary stay in the Shelter less frustrating and more enjoyable and productive. This enhanced program will also help the Shelter fulfill New York State’s updated regulations regarding the amount of time companion animals must spend in enrichment.
“The ASPCA is proud to provide Finger Lakes SPCA with grant funding to support its efforts to come into compliance with New York State’s new shelter standards by expanding the organization’s behavior and enrichment program,” said Christa Chadwick, senior vice president of shelter services at the ASPCA. “Finger Lakes SPCA provides critical sheltering, adoptions, medical care, and community support for animals throughout Central New York, and improving their enrichment and behavior capabilities will help alleviate stress and shorten stays for animals in their care.”
Funds from this grant will be used in part to hire a new staff member with behaviorist training and enable the entire FLSPCA staff to receive more in-depth training in this vitally important aspect of Shelter life. In 2025, FLSPCA had an intake of 103 dogs and 287 cats. Many come with behavioral and medical issues. Attending to both these needs makes for a high-quality stay in the Shelter and a better rate of successful adoptions.
Since 2001, the ASPCA has provided more than $200 million in grant funding to over 4,000 organizations and programs nationwide dedicated to helping vulnerable and victimized animals. For more information about the ASPCA’s grant-making and current initiatives, visit www.aspcapro.org/grants.
