CANISTEO, NY – Representatives from First Heritage Credit Union presented Canisteo Police Chief Kyle Amidon with a check for $1000 Thursday afternoon. The donation will go into the account of the Canisteo Police Club to be used for various policing aspects such as new equipment and the newly acquired K9 unit.
“The Canisteo Police Club is basically the interaction between the Canisteo PD and the community,” explained Amidon, “We sponsor several different events each year to give back to the community and specifically we have one coming up next weekend called “Shop with a Cop.”
Amidon continued that in “Shop with a Cop” , the department puts aside $2000 from Police Club donations to take children to Wal Mart to shop for Christmas presents. Amidon also mentioned other donations have come in for the program from a Facebook group labeled Running on Empty, and also from his fellow officers.
Amidon added that they have just received another grant called the “Buddy Bag” from the Vested Interest K9 Program. This package comes with necessary medical equipment for Dex, the K9 dog, in case of any medical needs the dog might incur while performing his duties. On top of that, the department received a separate grant that will provide Dex with much needed health insurance throughout his police career.
