December 14, 2022

ALFRED, NY – AU officials have announced on their website that Longtime Alfred University President Ed Coll, has died. Coll was the president of Alfred University from 1982-2000. Coll’s impressive bio, included receiving a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Duquesne University, a school which later awarded him an honorary doctorate. He was also a Fulbright Fellow, having studied at Warwick University in Coventry, England.

“Ed Coll came on to the Alfred campus, and made a very important and crucial contribution to the university,” said Dr Robert Heineman. “He was fundemental in getting the Olin Building financed and built, and was fundemental to other construction projects on the Alfred University campus. Ed Coll was not afraid to make decisions and not afraid to move Alfred University in the right direction.”

“I knew Ed Coll quite well,” Dr Gary Ostrower said. “He fully respected what we did on the academic side, and I think that in many ways, Ed Coll brought us into the 21st Century.”
