FROM THE CANISTEO FIRE DEPT: A little after 11PM last night, the Canisteo Fire Department was dispatched to the reported structure fire in the village with the caller stating there were flames visible on the back of the house. Upon arrival, the entire rear of the residence was engulfed in flames. Mutual aid was requested from Greenwood Volunteer Fire Company and the North Hornell fire department and together were able to stop the fire from spreading to the front of the house. All units were back in quarters by 0145 AM.
No injuries were reported and the family was able to escape, unfortunately the residents lost pets in the chaos. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this time.
