Steuben County Clerk Brenda Scotcher tells WLEA News, that Gary Swackhamer was a Steuben County Legislator for Hornell, from January 1, 1984 through December 31, 2007. Swackhamer had to retire from the County at that time, due to term limits that were implemented in 1996. Swackhamer then came back on the Steuben County Legislature on January 1, 2010.
Swackhamer served in the capacities of Vice Chair of the Legislature (2004-2005) and Steuben County Legislative Majority Leader (1994-2007, 2012-present). He also has held leadership positions on various standing committees throughout his tenure.
