Gerald T. “Jerry””Redneck” Knight, of Canisteo

CANISTEO-Gerald T. “Jerry””Redneck” Knight, 79, of Purdy Creek Rd. passed away peacefully Saturday (Oct. 25, 2014) at the Bath VA Nursing Home under comfort care.

 

Jerry was born January 26, 1935, in Susquehanna, Pa. to Frank W. and Margaret (Morris) Knight. On May 3, 1962 in Mills, Pa. he married Frances June Baker who predeceased him in September of 2013. He was also predeceased by his parents and a brother Robert Knight in September of 1999.

 

He had served our country in the U.S. Air Force from 1952-56 during the Korean War and had also served from 1958-74 in the U.S. Navy retiring after 20 years of service. He was a machinist at the former SKF Co. in Hornell. Prior to working in Hornell Jerry had been a radar instructor in the Navy and was a security officer at the University of Virginia at one time.

 

Survivors include a son Robert (Bonnie) Knight of Central Square, three daughters: Susan (John) Fahl of Williamsport, Pa. Sandra Dietrich (James Sadens) of Peninsula, Ohio and Connie (Jerry) Parsels of Cameron. Jerry is also survived by two grandchildren Shawn Fahl (Evan Joslin) and Sara (Nevin) Kraus.

 

At Jerry’s request there will be no calling hours or funeral service, a graveside service will take place at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Canisteo.
