Gillibrand: My Legislation To Reduce The Cost Of Prescriptions, For Senior Citizens

June 5, 2025

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, the top-ranking Democrat on the Senate Aging Committee, held a virtual press conference to discuss legislation to reduce the cost of prescription drugs for seniors this morning.

From Senator Gillibrand: “According to the CDC, millions of older adults struggle to afford their prescription medication. As a result, many resort to cutting pills in half, skipping doses entirely, or switching to over-the-counter medication in an attempt to save money. Gillibrand’s legislation would lower the cost of some of the most expensive and commonly used prescription medications by enhancing the Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) ability to negotiate directly with pharmaceutical companies on the price of certain prescription drugs covered under Medicare Part D. This will lower costs for people with Medicare while simultaneously reducing drug spending by the federal government.”
