BATH, NY – Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker says, the Muhollen case which went to trial Tuesday May 30, in Steuben County Court, is now over. It ended today. Ryan Muhollen of Hornell, the remaining suspect in the hate crime grafitti case out of Hornell last summer, pled not guilty, but he was found guilty in less than one hour by a jury. Muhollen was found guilty on 19 charges: 10 counts of aggravated harassment and 9 counts of 4th degree criminal mischief related to a hate crime. He will be sentenced July 18, and he could get 10 to 20 years.
The other suspects, pled guilty Dylan Henry, is in state prison, Aubrey Dragonetti is doing a year’s interim probation. The judge in the Muhollen was Judge Phil Roche.
“Hopefully this conviction sends a message that should have already been sent – that hate, and crimes committed in it’s name have no place in our community,” Baker said. “This crime shocked the Hornell Community because it is so out of character – every victim expressed the same disbelief that this could happen here.” Baker also explained that Hornell was not interested in joining up with racial extremists, “They had been unable to recruit additional members,” Baker stated.
