Hornell Board of Public Safety News

May 9th, 2019

HORNELL, NY – The Hornell Board of Public Safety passed a resolution Thursday morning that will put stop signs at 5 points of entrance/exit on Blaine Lane and Greeley Lane. The new signs will be located at the north end adjacent to Blaine St, the south end entering Conklin St, at the west end where Greeley Lane meets Greeley Ave, and finally at the intersection of Greeley Lane and Blaine Lane. Apparently people have been entering/exiting the small alleyway at a high rate of speed which has been known to harbor many children at play. Police Chief Ted Murray also suggested that a Child at Play sign be added. The measure now goes in front of the full Common Council.

Also interviews took place after the meeting to fill a Captains position at the fire dept. that was left vacant when Frank Brzozowski was appointed to Chief. The candidates being considered are David Logan, Chris Cartella, and Jordan Pelton.

Also finalization plans for the Memorial Day parade was announced at the meeting. The parade will be starting on the East Main St bridge, and end at the Broadway entrance with a ceremony immediately after.

In other news the board approved another Police Matron for the HPD. Kelsey Brzozowski will be filling that roll in the near future. Police Chief Ted Murray has said that that is a need for them after the retirement of female police officers.

And finally, a request to block off Bemis Ave for a graduation party was denied for various reasons. Buckley said he usually does not have a problem with permitting the block parties, but in this situation it is a one way street and all residents are not keen to the idea.
