Hornell City Hall Forms New Committee

April 10th, 2018

HORNELL, NY – Hornell Mayor John Buckley held a special meeting this morning to announce a formation of a new committee within the Common Council. The new Policies and Procedures committee will be chaired by 3rd Ward Alderman Joe McKay, with Melissa Ponticello, John Carbone, Jessica Cleveland and Jim Bassage rounding out the table.

The purpose of the committee will be to work closely with Human Resources to come up with policies and procedures in a wide range of areas for the roughly 99 people that work for the city.

Some areas covered according to the Mayor will be workplace violence, sexual harassment, safety regulations, computer usage and social media policies.

“Some of our first tasks will be reviewing what we already have on the books, go over and discuss it, and make modifications where necessary,” explained Buckley. “There are some areas where we don’t even have anything in place, so that will be a priority to address also.”

Committee Chair Joe McKay added, “It will be exciting to do an inaugural committee, there is a lot of work to be done and we certainly will have some growing pains along the way, but I feel we have some good people with diversified backgrounds that will put some good ideas together.”
