HORNELL, NY – The Hornell Dodgers advanced to the NYCBL Western Division Finals with a 13-2 victory over the Rochester Ridgemen on Monday. The Dodgers will begin the best-of- three game series with the Mansfield Destroyers tomorrow.

After three scoreless innings, the Ridgemen got on the board first in the 4th when they loaded the bases with two outs and Tyler Estabrook scored on a balk.

In the bottom of the 4th, the Dodgers loaded the bases themselves. Matteo Avallone (Alfred State) singled, Jordyn Smith (Grambling) walked, and Levi Hall (Webster) was hit by a pitch. With two outs a fly ball hit by Matt Staker (Webster) was misplayed and all three runners came into score.

In the 6th, the Dodgers put together a huge two-out rally. Ryan Hill (Monroe CC/Mercyhurst) and Jack McDonald (Wilmington) drew walks. After a wild pitch moved them both up 90 feet, Brendan O’Donell (Rider) beat out the throw on a RBI single to short. A throwing error on a pickoff attempt allowed McDonald to score, O’Donnell scored on a wild pitch, and Smith hit a two-run single to make it 8-1.

Alex Foppe (Webster) allowed just four hits and one run in his seven innings of work. He walked three and struck out ten.

The Ridgemen were able to get a RBI single by Maddox Henderson in the 8th but the Dodgers answered back with five more runs in the bottom of the inning. After a pair of hit by pitches, Avallone hit a three-run homer down the left field line. A fielding error after a double by AJ Gonzalez (St. Thomas Aquinas) added another run and Noah Fasso (Hudson Valley CC) capped the scoring with a RBI single up the middle.

Avallone finished 2 for 3 with 3 RBI while Gonzalez was 2 for 5 with a pair of doubles. The Dodgers drew 10 walks, were hit by three pitches and took advantage of five Ridgemen errors.
