HORNELL, NY – The former Evening Tribune building is owned by a company owned by a Daniel Militello, who was in 2022, talking about turning the old Tribune building into an apartment building. Last night Hornell Mayor John Buckley at the Hornell Common Council meeting, said Militello has been approached to instead, sell the old Tribune building to a company called King Cannibis. “So we were approached by a gentlemen who wanted to turn the old Evening Tribune (building) into a cannibis cultivation center,” Buckley tells WLEA News. “Obviously with the proximity to the Intermediate School there are several concerns. I shared those concerns with School Superintendent Jeremy Palotti, along with all the board of education members. Subsequently, the BOE passed a resolution against any cannibis use in the building, and we are going to pair their concerns with ours (the Hornell Common Councils) and send those off to the Board of Cannibis Management in Albany,” Buckley said to WLEA News, after last night’s meeting.
During the Common Council meeting, Police Chief Ted Murray spoke against the idea of having this located near the Hornell Intermediate School. “I’m certainly not in favor of it,” Murray said. “To have it so close to our school, it’s not a good idea at all, for a lot of reasons, I think the mayor touched on a lot of those reasons at the Council meeting. The fact that we have kids there in the playground area, kids coming and going to and from school, I just don’t think it’s a good idea at all,” Murray stated.
